A4 Graph Paper
A4 graph paper measures 210 × 297 mm. Set a 5 mm or 1 cm grid, then download an A4 graph paper PDF or print it straight from your browser. Print at 100% (actual size) so the squares stay true, adjust the margins to fit your printer, and switch to dot or isometric whenever you need it.
Print with confidence
- Use 100% scale or Actual Size in your print dialog.
- The generator creates clean vector lines for crisp PDFs and SVGs.
- Run the print calibration sheet first when exact spacing matters.
A4 graph paper at a glance
- Paper size: A4 is 210 × 297 mm (about 8.27 × 11.69 in) — the international standard outside the US and Canada.
- Format: export a crisp vector A4 graph paper PDF, or print directly from the browser; SVG and PNG are available too.
- Print setting: choose 100% / actual size (not "fit to page") so a 5 mm square really measures 5 mm.
- Margins: adjustable in the sidebar — shrink them for more grid, or set them to 0 for an edge-to-edge sheet.
- Spacing: 5 mm and 1 cm are the two most common A4 grids, and both are one click apart.
A4 graph paper dimensions
- A4 is 210 mm wide by 297 mm tall — about 8.27 × 11.69 inches.
- With a standard 10 mm margin, the printable area is roughly 190 × 277 mm.
- On a 5 mm grid that gives you about 38 squares across and 55 down.
- On a 1 cm grid that gives you about 19 squares across and 27 down.
Common A4 grid styles
- 5 mm square — the metric default for school and university work.
- 1 cm square — coarser; ideal for younger students or quick sketches.
- 5 mm dot grid — for bullet journaling and minimal note-taking.
- 5 mm isometric — for technical drawings and 3D sketches.
- 1 mm millimeter paper — for precise scientific or engineering plots.
Printing A4 from a US printer
- Most US printers can print A4, but the paper tray may default to Letter. Set the paper size in both the document and the printer dialog to A4 before printing.
- If only Letter paper is available, the generator can produce a Letter-sized version of the same grid — switch the size in the sidebar and re-print.

Frequently asked questions
How do I print A4 graph paper at actual size?
In the print dialog, set scale to 100% (or "Actual size") and turn off "Fit to page" or "Shrink to fit". Make sure the paper size is A4 in both the document and the printer. That keeps a 5 mm square measuring exactly 5 mm.
Is 5mm or 1cm better for A4 graph paper?
5 mm is the all-round default for school and lab work and matches most A4 pads. Choose 1 cm for younger students, scale drawings, and quick diagrams where bigger boxes are easier to work in. Both are one click apart in the generator.
Can I download A4 grid paper as a PDF?
Yes. Set your grid and click Download PDF for a vector A4 grid paper PDF that prints sharp at any size. SVG and PNG exports are available too, and everything is free with no watermarks.
Can I change the margins?
Yes. The margin controls in the sidebar let you shrink the border for more grid area, or set every margin to 0 for an edge-to-edge sheet (note: most printers keep a small unprintable border).
What size is A4 paper?
A4 is 210 mm × 297 mm (about 8.27 × 11.69 inches). It is the international ISO standard and used in most countries outside the US and Canada.
Can I print A4 on a Letter printer?
Yes, but you may need to load A4 paper into the tray and select A4 in the printer dialog. The generator outputs the page at true A4 size so the grid spacing stays correct.
Can I use landscape A4?
Yes. Switch orientation to Landscape in the generator and the grid will fill a 297 × 210 mm page.
